[this is good]

The blast door drawing is in the shape of the lower part of the Sephirothic System of the Ten Divine Names in Kabalah.

The Sephiroth: Tree of Life also addresses 3 mothers, 7 twins, etc. I think JJ Abrams is using the Sephiroth to create the island.
Actually, I see now that the blastdoor diagram represents the upper part of the Sephiroth: tree of life. The circle with dotted lines representes 'DAATH' - meaning the Abyss, which some orthodox Kabalahs do not believe exists, which may be why there is a question mark within the dotted circle. It doesn't have a corresponding number either.
Not only that, but the sephiroth is enclosed within a bagua. This kind of melding of wisdom traditions, to me, seems very gnostic.

yes, I see the bagua, interesting. I will have to think about how it works together.

The same thing last night on LOST, mixing the greeting 'namaste' - [I greet you as an equal; as one with the spirit within] with the Hawaiiwan leis giving - a sign of respect.

since JJ Abrams has said, LOST is a 'experience of faith', this mixing of religious symbolism and mysticism is important in the show. Certainly your focus on the philosophical overtones in LOST does not negate this, but actually works well together, since many philosophers were religiously-oriented and/or dabbled in gnosticism, alchemy, etc.

How much fun is this! :-)

We just finished episode 55, placing about one third of the way through season tree. Wow. One could spend days taking apart one episode.
Season three gets stronger and stronger.

Hopefully, in the next few months, I'll have another book out about the books/writers used in the show (so far). So I'm getting to go back over the episodes as well. They pack a lot in -- it's almost always worth a second or third viewing.
